CAT Team

The BEARS-1 Communication Assistance Team (CAT) is an organization of volunteers from the Brevard Amateur Radio Community dedicated to the maintenance of the vehicle and amateur radio equipment. The BEARS 1 mobile communications vehicle is the corporate property of BEARS.

The CAT provides the drivers, operators and trainers to support the vehicle when required by Brevard County Emergency Management, the Florida State Emergency Management and the Brevard Amateur Radio Clubs. Additionally, the CAT is responsible for certification of BEARS-1 drivers, the preparation of documentation and operating manuals, inventory of hardware and software. The CAT personnel are expected to set up and provide the training to remote site operators upon deployment.

The CAT meets the first Monday of each month at Kay's Real Pit Bar-B-Q, 1552 W King St, Cocoa, FL 32926, at 8:30 am for breakfast followed by a short meeting, then off to BEARS-1 to work on the vehicle and equipment. Visitors and helpers are always welcome.
